シアトルにあるシュタイナー教育のブライトウォーターウォルドルフスクールの冬の文化祭「Sugar Plum Faire」で、日本語を勉強している中学の生徒が、お茶会を主催しました。 まだ学校茶道の登録校ではありませんが、今年の４月に課外授業でシアトル日本庭園での茶の湯体験に来てくれました。冬の文化祭でどうしても８年生のプロジェクトとして、お茶会をしたいと申し出がありました。シアトル特別地区がそのお手伝いを致しました。学校初めての試みでしたが、予想を遥かに上回る150名のお客様にお越し頂き、教室に設えたお茶室と椅子席で、12名の生徒が中心となって、日本の和菓子とお抹茶を振る舞い、小学１年生の児童から中学生、父兄、教師まで、一期一会のひとときを楽しんで頂きました。
8th grade Japanese class students came to see a chanoyu presentation at The Seattle Japanese Garden last April. This school has not registered as a official school that practices Omotesenke tea yet, however, the students wanted to serve the matcha green tea to the guests at the winter festival as the class project. About 150 people came to the classroom to enjoy the tea gathering. This tea gathering project was supported by Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region Seattle Special District. Students, parents, and teachers enjoyed the first tea gathering and chanoyu demonstrations at school. They also enjoyed the matcha green tea and the authentic Japanese sweets from Japan. This event was very successful, and the school expressed a desire for us to continue to work together. It was also a great opportunity for the students who volunteered to serve tea and learn about this culture in the community.
