シアトル桜祭り＆日本文化祭は、１９７６年に当時の三木首相により贈られた１０００本の桜の木のお返しに、日本とアメリカの相互理解と友好のために始まりました。今年で第47回になる西海岸でも一番古い日本文化祭です。コロナ禍で過去二年間は、オンラインイベントとして開催されましたが、今年は３年ぶりに通常の対面イベントとして、シアトル（コンベンション）センターにて開催されました。会場特設ステージでは、伝統文化である華道、茶道、書道、琴、太鼓、武芸、などさまざまな分野の団体が、実演を披露しました。シアトル特別地区も１日数回にわたり、茶の湯プレゼンテーションを実施いたしました。
The Festival was initiated by a gift of 1,000 cherry trees that were given to Seattle on May 8, 1976, by Japan’s former Prime Minister, Takeo Miki, in commemoration of America’s bicentennial and the long friendship between the people of Japan and Washington State. Today, the Festival is the largest and oldest of its kind in the Northwest. Hanami, cherry blossom viewing, is a reminder to celebrate life, and the pink petals carried on the breeze at the first Festival engendered that thought. People enjoyed this three days live event in the Seattle (convention) Center after being postponed for two years. Traditional Japanese arts of demonstrations, such as Ikebana, callygraphy, tea ceremony, taiko, koto, dance, and martial arts on the stage. Seattle special district members gave the chanyu demonstrations at the special mini stage.
