晴天の秋空の元、ファースト・プレスビタリアン・チャーチ オブ アーリントンの庭園においてStudy Japanese in Arlingon (SJA ヴァージニア州アーリントンのNPO組織）との共催で「ハーベスト・ティー・セレモニー」が催されました。ウィズコロナの環境に配慮し、お客様の数、間隔等のソーシャルディスタンス、およびお茶碗等お道具の殺菌にも常日頃以上に気を配っての開催でした。 お客様は日本赴任を目前に日本語を猛勉強中の外交官の方々から小さなお子様、そしてコミュニティ一の人々など広範囲にわたり、皆さん興味深そうに立礼のお点前に見入り、お茶をお召し上がりになりました。活発な質疑応答もあり、参加者の皆様にはとても喜んでいただけたと思います。 時折り突風により茶筅が倒れるなどの小さなハプニングにもかかわらず、DC地区のメンバーのチームワークでもって適切に対応し、今月のイベントの為にお稽古を重ねた成果を発揮できました。イベントの宣伝、参加者登録、会場設置、受付に加え、同時に行われた折り紙や紙芝居、生け花等にはSJAのボランティアの支援を受け、共同で市民の皆様に茶道と日本文化に親しんでいただく機会を得て、表千家茶道をワシントンD.C郊外の一般市民に親しんでいただく成果があったと思います。一同、イベントの開催にあたりご指導くださいました先生方皆様に感謝いたします。 The Harvest Tea Ceremony was co-sponsored by Study Japanese in Arlington (SJA, a NPO in Arlington, Virginia) at the garden of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington under a beautiful autumn sky. In consideration of ongoing COVID-19 environment, we paid close attention to the number of guests per session, social distance, and the sterilization of utensils such as tea bowls. A wide range of people from U.S. diplomats studying Japanese for their upcoming assignment to small children and the people in the community enjoyed ryurei demonstration and a bowl of tea. All participants showed interest in learning about Japanese tea ceremony and there was a lively question and answer session after each demonstration.
Despite the small happenings such as the occasional gust which knocked down chasen, we were able to respond to those happenings by the teamwork of the members. Members had been working very hard for this month's demonstrations. We are grateful for SJA's volunteers who were proactively engaged in event promotion, participant registration, venue setting, reception, activities such as origami, story-telling, and flower arrangement. We made this event possible together. It was a community reach out event to the general public in the suburban Washington D.C. area. Thank you very much for all of our teachers who supported us.
