穏やかな秋晴れの10月23日日曜日午後2時半から4時まで、ヴァージニア州アーリントン所在の由緒ある教会に於いて「スタディジャパニーズ イン アーリントン（SJA、NPO）」が主催する「収穫の月の茶会」をテーマとする日本文化紹介のイベントで表千家同門会米国東部支部ワシントンDC地区会員有志が立礼のデモンストレーションと呈茶を行いました。一席15名ずつ、3回のお席で45名の参加者にお茶とお菓子を差し上げました。日本文化に興味がある、あるいは日本語を学ぶ老若男女がお集まりくださいました。中にはアメリカ人でイベントの着物着付けコーナーで着付けをし、お着物で席に入られた参加者も何人もいらっしゃいました。ほとんどの参加者が、お菓子もお茶もとてもおいしいと喜んでくださいました。デモンストレーションの後の質疑応答では、毎回お軸「一期一会」に触れ、どの方も二度と戻ってくることのない貴重なひとときをしみじみと味わっていらっしゃったようです。 何名かの参加者は茶道のお稽古に興味を示してくださったので、今後通常のお稽古に参加していただくことになりました。
On a beautiful autumn day, October 23, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region U.S. A. Washington D.C. Chapter hosted a tea gathering featuring Ryurei demonstration and served tea at the "Harvest Moon Tea" Japanese cultural event at a historic church in Arlington, Virginia, sponsored by "Study Japanese in Arlington (SJA, a non-profit organization).” Tea and sweets were served to 45 participants at three different sittings with 15 people at each session. The event attracted men and women of all ages interested in Japanese culture or studying the Japanese language. Several participants were Americans who were dressed in kimonos by professional kimono sytylists at the event's kimono dressing corner and particpated in their kimonos. Almost all participants enjoyed the sweets and tea very much. During the Q&A session after each demonstration, we discussed "Ichigo-Ichigo-Ichie," and everyone seemed to savor the precious moment that never comes back. Some of them showed interest in learning more about tea ceremony with us, and we are making arrangements so that they can participate in our regular practices in the future.
