紅葉が美しいメリーランド州立大学ボルティモア校において、第三回秋祭りが開催されました。このイベントはメリーランド州と神奈川県との40年以上にわたる姉妹州関係を祝うものです。立礼のお点前デモンストレーション、質疑応答、お点前の体験コーナーを通して地域の来場者の方々に茶の湯の紹介をしました。自分でお茶を点ててもらう体験コーナーではイベント参加者とDC地区会員有志とが直接交流できる素敵な「一期一会」の一時となりました。「マッチャ」は聞いたことがある、道具は持つている、しかし道具の使い方、お茶の飲み方がわからなかったという方も多く、正しい茶道を紹介する機会に恵まれました。
The Washington D.C. Chapter visited The University of Maryland – Baltimore County in the beautiful autumn weather to participate in the Japan Day Fall Festival. This event has celebrated the sister-state relationship between Maryland and Kanagawa for over 40 years. We introduced Chanoyu to local visitors through a Ryurei demonstration, a hands-on tea ceremony experience, and question & answer sessions.
The hands-on experience was most popular, where D.C. Chapter members could spend at least half an hour explaining Chanoyu and the process of making a bowl of tea to a small group of participants. Many people were familiar with the word "Matcha," but it gave them a new experience, and they learned how to prepare a tea bowl using our utensils. Both the participants and the members appreciated the "Ichigo Ichie" moment.
