セントジョセフ大学（フィラデルフィア）学生への茶の湯の紹介

セントジョセフ大学の「東アジアの美術と建築」講義を受講している学生を対象に、茶の湯の紹介を行いました。

フィラデルフィア地域も春の訪れとともに、花々が美しく咲き誇る季節となりました。今回は「桜」をテーマに、お道具を取り合わせてお点前のデモンストレーションを行い、その後、学生の皆さんに桜の和菓子と抹茶を楽しんでいただきました。

続いて、東部支部会員で建築家のアカリ・エディ氏より、茶室の特徴や様式についての解説がありました。さらに、ご自身のご自宅に本格的な小間を数年かけて自ら設計・建設されたご経験についても、興味深いお話をいただきました。

Introduction of Chanoyu to St. Joseph's University (Philadelphia) Students

We recently had the opportunity to introduce the Way of Tea to students enrolled in the East Asian Art and Architecture course at St. Joseph’s University.

With the arrival of spring, the Philadelphia region is now adorned with beautiful blossoms. To reflect the season, Naoko Acari chose sakura (cherry blossoms) as the theme for the utensils used in the tea demonstration. Following a formal tea presentation, students were invited to enjoy sakura-themed Japanese sweets and a bowl of matcha.

After the tea, Mr. Eddy Acari, an Eastern Region member of Domonkai and a professional architect, gave a presentation on the design and characteristics of tea rooms. He also shared his personal experience of building an authentic koma (small tea room) in his own home over the course of several years.
