七夕祭り市民茶会

シアトル日本庭園では、四季折々の行事が企画され、来園者の皆様に親しまれています。7月には七夕祭りが開催され、折り紙や短冊づくりなどのワークショップが開かれました。来園者は願い事を短冊に書き、笹竹に結びつけながら、日本の伝統的な夏の風情を楽しまれました。

シアトル特別地区では、この七夕祭りの期間に合わせて、茶室「松声庵」にて“七夕祭り市民茶会”を開催いたしました。茶席券は庭園ホームページで紹介されるとすぐに完売するほどの人気で、多くの方々に茶の湯のひとときを体験していただきました。

茶室およびテラスには庭園スタッフによる七夕の飾り付けが施され、茶室内では七夕を主題に、掛物、花、茶道具を設えました。お菓子にもこの季節ならではの趣向を凝らし、お客様には五感を通して七夕の世界をお楽しみいただきました。

お茶席では、茶の湯の基本的な作法や心構えをご紹介したのち、織姫と彦星、天の川の物語についてもお話ししました。一服のお茶を通して、日本の季節行事とともに、心静かな夏のひとときをお過ごしいただきました。

Tanabata Star Festival Public Tea Gatherings at the Seattle Japanese Garden Tearoom “Shoseian”

The Seattle Japanese Garden hosts seasonal cultural events throughout the year, delighting visitors with traditional Japanese experiences. In July, the garden held its annual Tanabata Star Festival, featuring workshops where guests created paper ornaments and wrote wishes on tanzaku strips to tie onto bamboo branches, embracing the spirit of this beloved summer celebration.

In conjunction with the festival, the Seattle Special District presented the Tanabata Public Tea Gatherings at the garden’s tearoom, Shoseian. Tea tickets, introduced on the garden’s official website, sold out quickly, reflecting the community’s continued interest in experiencing Chanoyu.

The garden was beautifully decorated with Tanabata motifs prepared by the garden staff. Inside the tearoom, the scroll, flowers, and tea utensils were carefully selected to reflect the Star Festival theme, while the sweets added a seasonal touch that enhanced guests’ enjoyment.

During the tea gatherings, participants were introduced to the spirit and etiquette of Chanoyu, followed by the story of Orihime and Hikoboshi—the two stars separated by the Milky Way. Through a single bowl of tea, guests shared a moment of calm and beauty unique to this summer season.
